Centralised vacuum system for high-temperature molten material in the zinc alloy sector

Company specialising in the production of zinc alloys for die casting, with internal management of raw materials such as SHG zinc, Mozal aluminium, magnesium, copper and zamak scrap.

Die casting is a process that involves injecting molten metal at high pressure into a metal mould to obtain complex, high-precision parts. The zamak alloys produced by the client are used in numerous sectors thanks to their versatility, particularly in automotive components.

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENT

The customer needed a safe, efficient system to extract molten material at over 400°C from a vibrating screen and convey it via pneumatic conveyor, while simultaneously ensuring initial cooling of the material and maximum system safety.

SOLUTION

The Sibilia technical department designed a “step” extraction system, designed to handle incandescentmaterial and allow for progressive cooling during extraction.

The heart of the system is located in a dedicated room, which houses the 30 kW S9E central vacuum cleaner, combined with the 1 m³ PR3058 A cyclone filter, configured to operate in critical conditions and in complete safety.

70 metres away, in a second room, four silos , each with a capacity of 1.5 m³, were installed, equipped with double manual discharge with throttle valves designed to withstand high temperatures. Here, the material is unloaded in rotation for 15 minutes every hour, allowing gradual cooling already during the deposit phase.

The entire material flow path has been designed to maximise safety: from the vibrating screen chute, the incandescent alloy reaches a special high-temperature hopper designed by Sibilia, equipped with a dummy air intake that accelerates and stabilises the cooling process.

All this with no operators required.

Every detail of the plant — from the vacuum cleaner to the electrical panel, from the silos to the cycle filter — has been developed to ensure maximum reliability even in the most critical conditions and to meet the highest safety standards.

To complete the system, fire preventing devices have been integrated into the extractor fan and cycle filter, as well as a Nomex filter for high temperatures and temperature probes distributed across all main components.

These tools ensure safe, controlled operation at all times.

PRODUCTS USED

S9E

The central unit of the S9 model maintains the same characteristics and performance as the model with a filter apparatus. Thanks to its compact size, it is the perfect solution for fixed installations, combined with the PR3058 0.5 or 1 m³ cyclone filter.

PR3058 A 1 m³

The PR3058 A cyclone filter is a compact 1 m³ hopper equipped with an integrated cyclone, designed to perform a dual function: filter apparatus for central units and collection container for vacuumed material.

It can be equipped with safety devices, various types of material discharge and filter cleaning systems. Combined with the S5, S8 or S9 central units, it allows for the creation of high-performance centralised systems.
