Centralised plant in a new waste-to-energy plant

A new waste-to-energy plant, operational since 2020, which treats 200,000 tonnes of non-hazardous domestic, industrial and hospital waste every year, generating 105 tonnes/hour of steam, partly used to produce electricity for over 50,000 households and partly for industries in the nearby energy district.

A waste-to-energy plant works by burning non-recyclable waste in grate furnaces operating at temperatures above 1000 °C. The heat produced feeds a boiler that generates high-pressure steam, which is used to drive a turbine and produce electricity or heat for the district heating network. The fumes are treated with advanced filtration systems, while the slag and residues are recovered or disposed of according to strict environmental criteria. The plant operates continuously, providing the local area with a stable and sustainable energy supply.

Dust and residues

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENT

Proper functioning of waste-to-energy plants requires that the operating areas be kept clean at all times. Walkways, filters, service areas and production lines are subject to the accumulation of dust and residuesgenerated by waste treatment and combustion. These deposits pose a potential safety risk, as they can cause localised overheating, trigger sparks and increase wear on crucial components such as fans, turbinesand pneumatic transport systems. Furthermore, the presence of fine dust compromises the quality of the working environment and can be harmful to operators.

The client needed an industrial extraction system capable of ensuring operational continuity, safety and the utmost reliability in a complex environment such as an incineration plant.

SOLUTION

To meet these needs, Sibilia designed a customised centralised extraction system, developed to cover the entire waste-to-energy plant.

Despite its small size, the S9E central vacuum unit, combined with a 1 m³ PR3058 A cyclone filter equipped with a Teflon filter, is perfectly suited for continuous vacuuming even in the presence of difficult particulates and combustion residues.

The entire system consists of over 500 metres of fixed piping, with 47 extraction points distributed throughout all strategic areas of the site. This coverage allows for immediate intervention in the most critical areas, drastically reducing dust accumulation and ensuring optimal operating conditions.

Using this Sibilia solution, waste-to-energy plants operate in a cleaner, safer and more controlled environment, preserving the efficiency of its lines, protecting operators and ensuring the continuity of the energy service offered to the local area.

PRODUCTS USED

PR3058 A 1 m³

The PR3058 A cyclone filter is a compact 1 m³ hopper equipped with an integrated cyclone, designed to perform a dual function: filter apparatus for central units and collection container for vacuumed material.

It can be equipped with safety devices, various types of material discharge and filter cleaning systems. Combined with the S5, S8 or S9 central units, it allows for the creation of high-performance centralised systems.

S9E

The central unit of the S9 model maintains the same characteristics and performance as the model with a filter apparatus. Thanks to its compact size, it is the perfect solution for fixed installations, combined with the PR3058 0.5 or 1 m³ cyclone filter.
